Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data netchecks.org ("NetChecks", "this site") processes when you use it, why, and what choices you have. NetChecks is a free network diagnostics toolkit; it does not require an account and does not sell personal data.
1. Who operates this site
NetChecks is operated as a self-hosted instance. For any privacy question or request, contact admin@netchecks.org.
2. Data processed to run the tools
Each diagnostic tool (ping, traceroute, DNS lookup, whois, port scan, HTTP headers, SSL/TLS checker, geo-IP, subnet calculator, speed test, etc.) needs to process the target you enter (an IP address, hostname, or domain) to return a result. This data is used only to run that single request and is not linked to a profile of you.
The My IP / Dashboard tools additionally read the public IP address your request arrives from (and, where your browser reports it, a private/internal IP) to show you your own connection details - reverse DNS, ISP, and approximate geographic location derived from that IP.
3. Optional request-activity logging
The operator of a given NetChecks instance can optionally enable request logging. When enabled, each tool request - requester IP address, timestamp, the tool used, and the target/query entered - is recorded in a database for security, abuse-prevention, and usage-analytics purposes. This is disabled by default. If this instance has it enabled, that will be reflected in the retention and purpose described here; contact the operator (above) if you want to know the current status for this instance.
4. Cookies and local storage
NetChecks itself sets no tracking cookies. It uses browser local storage (not sent to any server) for:
- your theme preference (light/dark)
- your language preference
- whether you accepted or declined the ads/cookies consent banner
None of this is used to track you across other sites.
5. Advertising and third-party cookies
This site may be supported by Google AdSense and/or Google Ad Manager. No ad or advertising-tracking script is loaded until you actively accept the consent banner shown on your first visit; declining keeps every tool fully usable, ad-free. If you accept, Google and its advertising partners may set cookies to select and measure ads - see Google's How Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google Privacy Policy. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site's local storage/cookies in your browser and reloading.
6. Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR / similar frameworks)
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to: request access to data held about you, request correction or erasure, object to or restrict processing, and request portability of your data. Since NetChecks does not require an account and stores minimal data (see sections 2-4), most of these requests resolve quickly - contact admin@netchecks.org and describe your request; if request logging is enabled on this instance, we will locate and act on entries matching the IP address/timeframe you provide.
7. International data transfers
If you accept ads, Google and its advertising partners may process data outside your country/region under their own applicable safeguards (e.g. EU Standard Contractual Clauses). See the Google links in section 5 for details.
8. Children's privacy
NetChecks is a general-purpose technical utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the site's features change (e.g. if request logging or ad partners change). The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision.
